Samsung officially announces Bixby – its digital voice assistant that will compete with Apple’s Siri, Microsoft’s Cortana and the Google Assistant.
Bixby will come pre-installed with the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S8 smartphone as well as the bigger Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus. The company is even planning on putting the digital voice assistant in its appliances such as refrigerators. How cool would that be?
To differentiate itself from other voice assistants, Bixby boasts a near complete support for an app’s functions. It is also said to be context aware and can pause one task to do another task on another app and then return to the previous app without loss of data.
Samsung even says that Bixby will be able to follow commands with incomplete data. In essence, it will not require the user to state an exact phrase but will try to identify what the user wants to do based on the context.
The capabilities of Bixby should be demonstrated at the launch of the Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus on March 29, 2017.
