Cherry Mobile Hyper |
Cherry Mobile teased us with an image on their Facebook page that says “A new dragon is rising.” It appeared to me that they will release a new smartphone that’s better than Cherry Mobile Omega HD.
But I was wrong. It’s the same unit that’s included in their Cherry Mobile Festival 2013 poster – Cherry Mobile Hyper.
What’s interesting with Cherry Mobile Hyper is of course it’s low price. It just costs ₱ 4,999.00 despite it’s specs – 1.2 GHz dual core processor, Android Ice Cream Sandwich, 5 inch display and a free Jelly Case.
To start off, CM Hyper got our eyes with it’s processor that’s the same as Cherry Mobile Flare. The said processor is the 1.2 GHz dual core Qualcomm Snapdragon processor. This means more processing power to run apps and less or no lags and freezing of CM Hyper.
Cherry Mobile Hyper will run Android 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich which is also the same with Cherry Mobile Flare. Although others might want Jelly Bean, ICS is a very good Android version for CM Hyper’s price tag.
Cherry Mobile finally mentioned that RAM to be 512 MB only. It would have been better if they put 1 GB of RAM into CM Hyper but this will suffice.
TFT screens are look good but only if faced directly in front of you. It changes quality and colors when viewed in angles.
Finally, there’s the 5 Megapixel rear camera with LED flash coupled with a VGA front facing camera. I’m sure the rear camera will be autofocus just like the one with Flare. That means picture quality will neither be the best nor the worst.
It will be very disappointing if Cherry Mobile removed some of the features of Hyper to compensate it’s low price. So we will keep our hopes high.
The poster states that CM Hyper will be dual sim. This might be the same with Flare where sim 1 is used for 3G while sim 2 is just for 2G.
CM Hyper will also be capable of connecting to a WiFi network and serve as a WiFi hotspot in just a few clicks. It will also be capable of transferring files via Bluetooth and microUSB cord.
Aside from those that I’ve mentioned, CM Hyper will also have GPS, FM Radio (I hope they’ve already learned the lesson with Flare’s missing FM Radio), Proximity sensor and Ambient light sensor for auto brightness of the screen.
The battery will also keep you connected all day long with its 2100 mAh capacity. This is a very good improvement from the 1500 mAh of CM Flare.
Given the availability of cooler units like the Cherry Mobile Omega HD and Cherry Mobile Flame 2.0, where will Cherry Mobile Hyper find it’s place?
My idea is that CM Hyper is for those who like to have a phone with a large screen but does not really use it too much. CM Hyper is best for basic phone functions like texting, surfing the net and taking pictures of your food.
What’s your idea? Do you think CM Hyper has a place in the overcrowded Cherry Mobile phone stands?
