Most quad core phones from local brands tries to put as many high numbers in their specs sheet as possible. However, Torque’s Droidz Motion has a mere 512 MB of RAM! That’s considered low with the introduction of quad core phones by other local brands with 1GB of RAM.
Torque rejects claims that Droidz Motion is a “Fail” by highlighting its “RAM Saving Chip”. As a result, you can still open several apps and not experience lags or a degraded performance.
The chip in question is MediaTek’s MT6589 quad core processor which is clocked at 1.2 GHz. Torque even goes on by highlighting Droidz Motion’s Cortex A7 CPU type, higher cache capacity, full HD video encoding and decoding and 1,600 Mpix/s GPU.
So, is Torque Droidz Motion still worth your time even if it only has 512 MB of RAM? Definitely! Let’s also check its other specs which for me, makes it awesome.
Droidz Motion has two cameras – an 8 Megapixel autofocus shooter with LED flash at the back and a VGA one at the front. Aside from the usual functions of its camera app, it also has a smile detector that lets the phone take the photo automatically when it detects your smile.
Let’s look at Droid Motion’s 5 inch screen which has a resolution of 960×540 Pixels or 220 PPI. It’s also scratch resistant but it’s not clear what type of technology Torque is using for screen protection.
Droidz Motion can, of course, connect to a WiFi network and act as a WiFi hotspot with just a few steps since it runs Android 4.2 Jelly Bean.
In the absence of a free WiFi network, you can still connect to the internet using 3G with maximum speeds of 7.2 Mbps for download and 5.76 Mbps for upload. If you can’t connect to a 3G network, EDGE and GPRS are viable options too. Just make sure that you have a SIM with 3G capability in your area.
With Droidz Motion, you can also share files using Bluetooth, listen to FM Radio and navigate using GPS.
Unlike other local android phones, Torque fitted the Droidz Motion with a battery that can last longer with 2200 mAh capacity. This should be enough for an entire day of taking pictures, listening to music, browsing the web or playing games.
Torque Droidz Motion is priced at Php7999 and is now available nationwide at all Torque stores. If you’ve bought one already, share your experiences in the comments below.
Torque certainly made a mistake in fitting 512MB of RAM on Droidz Motion. Even if the phone’s performance is actually great, people will still associate the low amount of RAM with a lower performance than those with 1 GB of RAM.
If Torque takes my advice (hehe), I will suggest that they should provide each store with a sample unit where people can try using several apps at once so that they will be convinced that the 512MB RAM doesn’t hamper the performance of Droidz Motion.
