Asus unveiled the Zenfone 2 during the Consumer Electronics Show (CES 2015) with a shocking reveal of being the first smartphone to have 4GB of RAM.
This is made possible by the use of a 64-bit quad core processor from Intel. It has the same design as the previous Zenfones but with thinner bezels and the volume buttons placed at the back.
The Asus Zenfone 2 comes in two variants – the one with 4GB of RAM and a 2.3GHz processor and another one with only 2GB of RAM and a slightly slower processor clocked at 1.8GHz. The latter will sell for $199 or a bit less than ₱9,000 while the first one hasn’t been priced yet.
Both versions has a 13MP camera at the back with a two-tone LED flash and low-light tweaks using PixelMaster technology and a 5MP wide angle front facing camera.
Out of the box, Android 5.0 Lollipop will run the show but with Asus’ Zen UI on top that enables custom themes and fonts.
The Asus Zenfone 2 has a 5.5-inch screen with full HD resolution (1080p) and a layer of Corning Gorilla Glass 3 for scratch protection. There’s also 4G LTE connectivity as well as 3G HSPA+ for areas without LTE coverage.
It comes in 16, 32 and 64GB variants all with a microSD card slot capable of adding up to 64GB of storage space. Of course, USB OTG is supported.
A 3,000mAh battery powers the Zenfone 2 and even boasts a fast charging feature. It is expected to be available by March of 2015.
