While the 13-inch iPad Pro dominated the spotlight during Apple’s recent event, a smaller tablet with powerful features was also launched – the iPad Mini 4.
It has a 7.9-inch screen housed in a 6.1mm thin body that tips the scale at around 300 grams only. Yet, it runs on a 64-bit A8 chip at 1.5GHz and appears to be aided by 2GB of RAM!
Of course, the iPad Mini 4 is made from the same high quality materials as previous Apple tablets. There are three color options to choose from – silver, gold and space gray.
Its 7.9-inch display has a resolution of 1536 x 2048 pixels resulting in a pixel density of 324 pixels per inch. This is scratch and smudge resistant.
Out of the box, it runs on iOS version 9.0 with notable new features such as Slide Over, Split View and Picture in Picture for multi-tasking; always on Siri and a new font called San Francisco.

There are two variants of the iPad Mini 4 – one with 4G LTE and another with Wi-Fi only. There are also three options for storage space – 16GB, 64GB and 128GB.
It has an 8MP camera at the back with a Backside Illuminated (BSI) sensor and can produce a 43MP panorama image. There’s also a 1.2MP front camera for selfies and video calling.
Its home button has been fitted with a TouchID finger print sensor that can be used to unlock the tablet or authenticate mobile payment transactions using Apple Pay.
The iPad Mini 4 can handle hardcore games and even 3D modeling. |
Apple promises up to 10 hours of battery life for the iPad Mini 4. However, that depends on the way you use the tablet. Play a lot of games and you’ll be prompted by the Low Power Mode in no time.
The basic version with Wi-Fi only and merely 16GB of storage space costs $399 internationally. Double the storage costs $499 while the 128GB version costs $599.
For the 4G LTE version, the cheapest costs $529. The 64GB variant costs $629 and the 128GB one costs $729. We’ll update this when Philippine prices will be available.
