Google Launches New Chromecast (2nd Gen.) and Chromecast Audio

by Daniel Gubalane on Sep 29, 2015

The Google Chromecast that was launched in 2014 became the most popular streaming device due to its cheap price and good performance.

Now, Google launches a better version with a refreshed design, adaptive dual-band Wi-Fi antenna system and several color options. A Chromecast Audio for speakers has been introduced too!

Just like Chromecast 1st Gen., this new Chromecast plugs into a TV’s HDMI port and requires a separate connection for power.

Once it’s already set up, users can stream videos, pictures and games to the TV’s larger display at full HD resolution for everyone to enjoy watching. A lot of apps and content sources now support casting.

This is how Chromecast works.

Its official price stays at $35 or around ₱1,600. It may not be officially available in the Philippines though. Online sellers such as Kimstore and Lazada will surely offer it though.

Meanwhile, the Chromecast Audio is mean for speakers and connects through a 3.5mm audio jack, RCA or optical cable. Just like the Chromecast for TV, it also requires a separate connection for power.

This is how Chromecast Audio connects with speakers.

The device features concentric grooves that gives it a vinyl record look – a nice touch for classical music lovers.

It’s also priced $35 but that’s considerably lesser compared to buying a Wi-Fi enabled speakers. However, it’s not yet clear if it will be officially released here in the country.
