Huawei Mobile Philippines introduced the 6-inch Mate 8 smartphone in the country during a media event at the Solaire Grand Ballroom.
Aside from the large Full HD display, it also runs on a powerful HiSilicon Kirin 950 processor, shoots pictures using a 16 Megapixel camera with optical image stabilization and powered by a 4000mAh battery.
The Huawei Mate 8 is enclosed in a metal unibody casing while the front panel is protected by a layer of scratch resistant 2.5D Corning Gorilla Glass 4 with slightly curved edges. It measures 7.9 mm in thickness, tips the scale at 185 g and has very slim bezels.
While it runs on Android 6.0 Marshmallow out of the box, the user interface is a customized skin called Emotion UI version 4.0.
There are four CPU cores that run on 2.3GHz for powerful performance, another four power efficient CPU cores running at 1.8GHz and a whooping 4GB of RAM. These ensure a smooth performance with resource intensive apps as well as multi-tasking.

The Huawei Mate 8 also boasts great photography. Its 16 Megapixel main camera uses Sony’s IMX298 image sensor – same as the Xiaomi Mi 5. It reduces motion for videos and prevents blurry photos with Optical Image Stabilization. Meanwhile, selfies are taken care of an 8 Megapixel front camera.
It comes with 64GB of built-in storage and a slot for microSD cards of up to 128GB capacity. This uses the second SIM card slot though.
Its 4000mAh battery isn’t removable but Huawei says it can last up to two (2) days on a single charge! It also supports fast charging at 2 Amperes resulting into 37% battery life after 30 minutes of charging.

At the back of the Huawei Mate 8 is its finger print sensor. It can unlock the device in half a second of pressing your thumb of the more comfortable pointer finger.
It supports dual SIM function with 4G LTE connectivity for both Smart and Globe. There’s also dual band Wi-Fi, NFC and Bluetooth 4.2.
The official price of the Huawei Mate 8 in the Philippines is ₱32,990.00. It’s available at Huawei stores and authorized retailers after March 5, 2016.
