New AMD Ryzen 7 Chip Outperforms Intel Core i7 at Half the Price

AMD unveils its Ryzen series of desktop CPUs to challenge Intel’s dominance in the market. This includes three variants – Ryzen 7, Ryzen 5 and Ryzen 3.

 

Better Performance

Benchmark results published by AMD shows the three models of Ryzen 7 outperforming their Intel Core i7 counterparts.

The top of the line AMD Ryzen 7 1800X has a base clock speed of 3.6GHz, 4.0GHz boost speed and 8 CPU cores. It is 9% faster than the Intel Core i7 6900K in multi-threaded tests while the two CPUs are tied in single-threaded tests.

Next, the more affordable AMD Ryzen 7 1700X is 39% faster than the Intel Core i7 6800K. This is still an octa core CPU but with a slightly lower 3.4GHz base speed.

Lastly, the cheapest of the three which is the AMD Ryzen 7 1700 outperforms the Intel Core i7 7700K by 46%. Its base clock speed is 3.0GHz.

 

Lower Price

All three models of the AMD Ryzen 7 are cheaper than Intel’s offerings. The AMD Ryzen 7 1800X costs $499 while the Intel Core i7 6900K costs as mush as $1050.

Meanwhile, the AMD Ryzen 7 1700X has a price tag of $399 which is still lower than the $450 SRP of the Intel Core i7 6800K.

To complete the comparison, the AMD Ryzen 7 1700 is priced at $329 with the Intel Core i7 7700K costing $350.

 

AMD Ryzen 5 and Ryzen 3

AMD hasn’t revealed the details of the Ryzen 5 and Ryzen 3 yet. The company says the two CPU variants will be unveiled before 2017 ends.
