LG Mobile unveiled the LG G6 at the Mobile World Congress 2017 in Barcelona today. It features a FullVision Display, dual camera system and always on Google Assistant.
FullVision means the 5.7-inch screen takes up almost all of the LG G6’s front panel. The side bezels as well as those at the top and bottom are all very minimal. This has been a defining feature of LG’s flagship smartphones since the G3.
The display also has rounded corners that looks good and an unusual aspect ratio of 18:9. LG says this is better for watching movies.
The company made several improvements in LG UX 6.0 to take advantage of the tall screen. One of these is its ability to show two apps in equal size, side by side, for multi-tasking.
LG stressed that they’ve listened to its customers. One of their findings is that people want a phone that they can use with one hand and can fit in their jeans’ pockets.
Hence, they assured that the LG G6 is very comfortable to use with just one hand. Its body width is merely 72 inches or around 2.83 inches!
The LG G6 boasts a dual camera system with a 13 MP + 13 MP configuration. This gives it the ability to shoot blurred background photos and other tricks of dual cams.
Its primary lens has an f/1.8 aperture and 3-axis optical image stabilization while the second one offers wide-angle shots.
Meanwhile, a 5 Megapixel camera on the front handles selfies.
The LG G6 is housed in a metallic body with fused glass panels. It has IP68 certification which means it is water resistant up to 1 meters underwater for 30 minutes and fully dust resistant.
A layer of Corning Gorilla Glass 3 also protects the front panel from scratches. Even the rounded corners serve a purpose. According to LG, it has a better chance of survival when dropped compared to squared corners.
The LG G6 will come with Google Assistant out of the box. This is the Artificial Intelligence app that was previously exclusive to Google’s Pixel smartphones.
Google Assistant on the LG G6 is always on so the user can always speak a command and it will comply.
Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 821 powers the LG G6 together with 4GB of RAM and Android Nougat as the operating system.
It comes in 32GB or 64GB storage options. A microSD card slot is also present for additional storage space.
There’s 4G LTE connectivity, dual-band Wi-Fi, NFC and a reversible USB Type-C port.
