During the launching of the Cherry Mobile Flare S6, Flare S6 Selfie and Flare S6 Plus, the Philippine tech brand promised that these three smartphones will all receive an Android Oreo software update.
Out of the box, the Flare S6 series of smartphones run on Android 7.0 Nougat as its operating system with a software overlay called Cherry OS.
End of 2017 or Early 2018
Speaking to fellow tech blog Unbox.ph, Cherry Mobile’s AVP for Product Development Lonson Alejandrino confirmed the planned Android Oreo update. He said that this will be available by the end of 2017 or early next year, 2018.
Android Oreo comes with native picture-in-picture mode, better battery life, revamped notifications, autofill for passwords and more.
Oreo for other Models
There were also hints that other Cherry Mobile smartphones will receive Android Oreo update too. However, no particular model was mentioned.
If Cherry Mobile delivers with this promise, they will just solidify their position as the number one smartphone brand in the Philippines.
