Huawei has officially unveiled the Huawei Mate 10 in Munich. One of its features that piqued my interest is image recognition that doesn’t need an internet connection.
This is built-in to the phone’s camera. After recognizing the subject of a photo, the device then applies the correct camera settings to capture the best possible picture.
Image recognition can be easily done by connecting to a powerful online server. However, that raises concerns for security and speed.
By doing it offline, Huawei makes it fast and secure for use during family events at home, casual mobile photography or when you are in vacation and with no mobile internet connection.
This is made possible by the company’s own Kirin 970 chipset that comes with its own Neural Processing Unit for Artificial Intelligence applications such as image recognition.
