Smart, Globe and the two telcos’ sister networks like TM, TNT and Sun Cellular have now implemented the one year validity of prepaid cellphone load.
This is in compliance with the joint memorandum from the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC), Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) and Department of Trade and Industry (DTI).
There’s one caveat. Only cellphone load worth ₱300 and up will have the one year validity for now. Lower amounts will still expire after 30 days if not used.
Both telcos cited some technical changes necessary to implement the longer validity to lower amounts of cellphone load. Softwares have to be upgraded and systems have to be reconfigured to ensure a trouble-free implementation.
The three government agencies gave the telcos additional six months to fully implement the memorandum circular.
