Huawei Y6 Pro 2019 Unboxing (Accessories, Hands On and First Camera Samples)

I was very excited to take the Huawei Y6 Pro 2019 out of its box because the smartphone’s specs sheet is promising. It has a dewdrop display, Android Pie OS and a 13MP camera with a wide f/1.8 aperture.

Still, there were a few surprises such as its hidden “Selfie toning flash 2.0” and the curvature of its sides. However, I was also left looking for the freebies (see update below).

 

What’s inside the Huawei Y6 Pro 2019 box?

Upon unboxing the Huawei Y6 Pro 2019, I was immediately greeted by the smartphone itself. Next is the inner box that contains the documentations and the SIM ejector tool.

Beneath it are the micro-USB cable for data transfer and charging as well as the phone’s charger. The latter has a rated output of 5V and 1A only.

A screen protector is already applied to the phone but there is no free phone case nor a pair of earphones inside the box. I have a feeling that Huawei skimped on the freebies to provide better specs and features on the Huawei Y6 Pro 2019.

Those who pre-ordered the device on Lazada will receive a Huawei AM12 Plus earphone voucher worth ₱700.

Update: Aside from the voucher, Huawei is also giving a free “Premium Gift Box” with each purchase of the Huawei Y6 Pro 2019 on its first day of availability on February 23, 2019.

 

Hands on with the Huawei Y6 Pro 2019

The Huawei Y6 Pro 2019 feels sleek and compact thanks to its tall aspect ratio and more pronounced curves on its sides.

Its screen is responsive and has an average brightness although the glossy back easily collects smudges. Nevertheless, the small dewdrop notch is certainly an improvement over the wider notch of 2018 smartphones.

Navigating the EMUI 9 user interface which is based on Android Pie is smooth and doesn’t feel much different than EMUI 8. Turning on the gesture navigation as well as screen time monitoring makes it feel more like Android Pie.

There’s 25.5GB of free storage out of the box with very few pre-installed third-party apps. I’ll have to test whether the phone’s smooth performance persists when more apps are installed and running.

The f/1.8 aperture of the Huawei Y6 Pro 2019’s 13 Megapixel rear camera means that it can accommodate more light through its lens.

Meanwhile, the phone’s 8 Megapixel selfie camera also has a trick to capture better selfies. A small LED flash called “Selfie Toning Flash 2.0” is hidden in its top bezel.
