Huawei equipped the Huawei Y7 Pro 2019 smartphone with promising cameras. It has a 13 + 2 Megapixel dual rear cameras and a 16 Megapixel selfie camera.
Here are some pictures took using the phone’s cameras showing both its strengths and weaknesses.
Let’s start with this picture of a sunflower. This was shot using the rear cameras of the Huawei Y7 Pro 2019 with its AI feature turned on.
Its sharpness is decent with a bit of natural background blur. However, the leaves have been turned slightly yellowish by the camera’s AI perhaps to compliment the big yellow flower.
The second sample picture shows the power of the Huawei Y7 Pro 2019’s AI Camera as it dramatically improved the dynamic range of the photo.
Notice the underside of the Philippine eagle statue. It doesn’t look that bright and detailed when the AI feature is turned off. At the same time, the sky and trees in the background all look perfectly-lit.
Next is a beach picture. Once again, the Huawei Y7 Pro 2019 produced a good-looking image with sharp details and natural colors.
Zooming the picture reveals a bit of over-processing though. Make sure that you don’t crop images too much before sharing them on social media.
Then we have this low light shot. The Huawei Y7 Pro 2019 can produce brighter pictures of the audience but I chose to show this one because it shows the performers clearly.
You can still make out some of the audience members as well as the decors above the venue.
The Huawei Y7 Pro 2019 can shoot up to 1080p videos at 30 fps. It makes footage with natural-looking colors and decent sharpness.
However, the dynamic range in videos is a bit limited resulting in blown-out bright backgrounds. Its autofocus can be jittery and there’s no stabilization.
Let’s move on to selfies.
This sample selfie from the Huawei Y7 Pro 2019 has a little bit of AI Beautification. It still looked natural with plenty of details and natural-looking skin tone.
Just like most selfie cameras though, it has a tendency to blow out bright backgrounds in favor of making the face of the subject well-exposed.
I disabled the beautification feature in this sample selfie. Hence, you can clearly see more imperfections on my face.
Lastly, we have this low light selfie shot using the Huawei Y7 Pro 2019’s front camera. It tends to be less sharp than selfies in well-lit conditions but the front LED flash helps a lot in keeping the skin tone alive.
Overall, the Huawei Y7 Pro 2019 has some pretty capable cameras both for the front and the back. Its camera software also has a few tricks up its sleeve for turning good pictures into great images.
Its limitations include the lack of stabilization and some perks found in more expensive smartphones such as optical zoom and ultra-wide lens.
