The Huawei Y7p is powered by a Kirin 710F chipset with 4GB of RAM and EMUI 9.1 software which is based on Android 9 Pie.
I’ve tested the gaming performance of the device by measuring the frame rate while playing popular games. These include Mobile Legends: Bang Bang, Call of Duty Mobile, and PUBG Mobile. Frame rates are measured using GameBench Pro.
Before we proceed with the gaming tests, take note that a lot of popular games are not yet available on the Huawei AppGallery. Aside from casual games like Hill Climb Racing, only Asphalt 9: Legends and Creative Destruction are the games I’m familiar with in the platform as of the time of writing.
I installed Mobile Legends and Call of Duty Mobile by using the Phone Clone feature to send the game files from a Huawei Nova 5T to the Huawei Y7p. It was an easy and fast process and this is usually what I do to avoid downloading the games, again and again, every time I have a smartphone for review.
However, I didn’t have PUBG Mobile installed in the Huawei Nova 5T anymore. Hence, I had to install APK Pure and install the game from there. It was also very easy but took quite a while because the game files are quite big at almost 2GB.
Let’s now proceed with the gaming review of the Huawei Y7p. The first game is Mobile Legends: Bang Bang with the graphics quality set to High, shadows turned on, and character outlines turned on.
After more than 17 minutes of playing, GameBench Pro measured an average frame rate of 60 frames per second! That’s a perfect score for the device with a 95% stability.
It remained comfortable to hold while playing the game. Based on battery temperature measurements, it started at 31°C and slightly increased to 35°C.
Call of Duty Mobile only shows Low graphics quality and up to Medium frame rate settings on the Huawei Y7p. I would have preferred higher settings but these are the only available choices.
The resulting average frame rate is also a perfect 60 fps. However, the game doesn’t look as good with a lot of jagged edges and low-quality texture rendering.
For PUBG Mobile, the Huawei Y7p supports up to HD graphics quality and High frame rate. This is quite surprising because other smartphones in this price range can only be set at Balance graphics quality and Medium frame rate.
I played the game for more than 15 minutes and the average frame rate reported by GameBench is 30 fps. That’s playable with decent-looking character and texture rendering.
The phone’s temperature only reached a maximum of 38°C after the gaming test. That means there’s no heating issue despite a resource-intensive game.
Game | Graphics | Frame Rate |
---|---|---|
Mobile Legends | High | 60 fps |
Call of Duty | Low | 60 fps |
PUBG Mobile | HD | 30 fps |
The Huawei Y7p has enough processing power to run games like Mobile Legends at high graphics quality. PUBG Mobile is also playable on the device with HD graphics quality but Call of Duty is limited to low graphics quality.
However, the phone uses the Huawei AppGallery instead of the Google Playstore so downloading games can be a challenge. Asphalt 9: Legends is available on the platform but other games have to be downloaded from APKPure or other app repositories.
Other than this, the Huawei Y7p is a good buy for its gaming performance considering that the device also offers a good set of cameras, unique design, and long-lasting battery.
