Smartphone brand OPPO will license its cellular 3G and 4G patents to connected cars and IoT products by joining Avanci.

It’s a patent licensing platform that allows car manufacturers and iOT companies to obtain patent licenses from the leading tech companies. Some of the licensees are Audi, BMW, Rolls-Royce, Volvo, and more.

OPPO currently has more than 16,000 patents and 43,000 patent applications globally. The amount of patents that a company owns reflects its efforts in research and development or R&D.

According to Adler Feng, the Senior Director of Intellectual Property of OPPO, the company has always been committed to promoting the healthy development of the industry. “We are willing to license OPPO’s essential patent portfolio to the industry… We are pleased to offer our 3G and 4G communications standard-essential patents for licensing through Avanci to IoT and automotive manufacturers,” he said.

Meanwhile, Avanci welcomes OPPO to the platform and assures a reasonable return on their R&D investments.

Other notable companies that license patents through Avanci are Nokia, Qualcomm, Ericsson, Sony, Panasonic, and more.
