The Huawei Y6p is a budget-friendly smartphone powered by a MediaTek Helio P22 chipset with 4GB of RAM.
I tested its gaming performance by playing some of the most popular mobile games. While playing, GameBench Pro measured the average frame rate. A score near 60 fps means the game runs smoothly.
Smartphone | Average Frame Rate in ML | |
---|---|---|
Huawei Y6p | 28 fps | |
Realme C3 | 46 fps | |
Huawei Y7p | 60 fps | |
Samsung Galaxy A20 | 24 fps | |
OPPO A9 2020 | 39 fps | |
Realme 5i | 60 fps |
The first game I tested on the Huawei Y6p is Mobile Legends with the graphics quality set to High. Shadows, character outlines, and HFR mode were also turned on.
Sadly, the game felt laggy even when I was only fighting monsters, not enemy heroes. This was confirmed by the 28 fps average frame rate measured by GameBench Pro.
Thankfully, the performance improved when I turned off shadows and lowered the graphics quality to Smooth. This time, GameBench Pro reported an average frame rate of 45 fps and reduced the frame drops during clashes.
Call of Duty Mobile only supports Low graphics quality on the Huawei Y6p. The game usually limits the graphics quality based on the phone’s chipset to provide a smooth gameplay.
I played several Multiplayer Frontline match and GameBench Pro measured an average frame rate of 44 fps. The game is playable but there are several frame drops when encountering enemies.
Just like with my gaming review of the Huawei nova 7i, NBA 2K20 refused to run on the Huawei Y6p too. This is important since many Filipinos are fond of playing this game.
PUBG Mobile supports up to Balanced or Medium graphics quality on the Huawei Y6p. However, the average frame rate measured by GameBench Pro is 25 fps only and frame drops still occur.
Lowering the graphics quality reduces the frame drops and overall jankiness but the average frame rate remains at 25 fps. This is actually a limit imposed by the game based on the phone’s chipset.
The limit can’t be removed unless tweaks on the screen resolution are manually applied using tools like GFX.
Here are the results of all gaming tests I conducted on the Huawei Y6p:
Game | Graphics | Framerate |
---|---|---|
Mobile Legends | High | 28 FPS |
Call of Duty Mobile | Low | 44 FPS |
PUBG Mobile | Balanced | 25 FPS |
NBA 2K20 | NA | |
Mobile Legends | Smooth | 45 FPS |
The Huawei Y6p seems like a promising gaming smartphone with its 4GB RAM but the MediaTek Helio P22 simply lacks the power to run heavy games smoothly.
It’s enough for casual games and can even run games like Mobile Legends at low graphics quality with acceptable performance. However, more resource-intensive games like Call of Duty and PUBG Mobile can’t be fully enjoyed due to frame drops and jankiness.
You’ll also have to take into account the fact that some games like NBA 2K20 won’t run on the device. This is usually the case with paid games.
