The OPPO Find X2 Pro is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 chipset with 12GB of RAM. It also boasts a 6.7-inch display with a 120Hz refresh rate.
I tested its gaming performance by playing some of the most popular mobile games and measuring the average frame rate using GameBench Pro. I’m especially curious if the device can reach 120 fps which is twice the normal 60 fps maximum frame rate of most games.
Of course, the first game that I played on the OPPO Find X2 Pro is Mobile Legends. I tried setting all the graphics options to the maximum values but the ULTRA graphics quality is disabled as of this writing.
Anyway, I proceeded with the gaming test of Mobile Legends with the graphics quality set to HIGH. Shadows, character outlines, and HFR mode were all turned on too.
The resulting average frame rate measured by GameBench Pro is a perfect 60 FPS with 100% stability.
This means that the game ran very smoothly and remained that way even during clashes with enemy heroes. There were no lags nor frame drops. I just hope that the ULTRA graphics quality will be enabled for the device soon.
Thankfully, the OPPO Find X2 Pro supports the ULTRA HIGH graphics quality of Call of Duty Mobile. I also set the frame rate preset to MAX during the test.
After a single Frontline match on the Nuketown map, GameBench reported an average frame rate of 60 FPS. The game felt buttery smooth even when facing several enemies at the same time. This makes it very easy to win the fight since the player’s reaction time slightly increases.
However, this is just half of the maximum frame rate supported by the phone’s display. It can still do more if the game allows it.
I have previously experienced 90 fps gaming while playing NBA 2K20 on the realme 6 smartphone. Hence, I was very excited to test if the game also runs at this frame rate or higher on the OPPO Find X2 Pro.
However, GameBench Pro only recorded an average frame rate of 60 FPS. It’s already a great gaming experience but I expected more.
I tried setting the graphics or video options to the lowest values but it still doesn’t surpass 60 FPS. I even messed with the device settings such as turning on Performance mode and lowering the screen resolution to no avail.
Just like Call of Duty Mobile, PUBG Mobile also enables all graphics options on the OPPO Find X2 Pro. I set it to HDR graphics quality and EXTREME frame rate preset during the test.
It was like nothing for the device! The average frame rate is still 60 FPS albeit with 99% stability.
There were one or two frame-drops in an entire match but it’s negligible compared to the overall smoothness of the game. However, it’s still limited to 60 FPS and doesn’t use the full potential of the 120Hz display.
Here are the results of the gaming tests I conducted on the OPPO Find X2 Pro:
Game | Graphics | Frame Rate |
---|---|---|
Mobile Legends | High | 60 fps |
NBA 2K20 | Ultra-high | 60 fps |
Call of Duty | Very High | 60 fps |
PUBG Mobile | HDR | 60 fps |
There are three options for the screen refresh rate of the OPPO Find X2 Pro – auto select, 120Hz, and 60Hz. However, the 120Hz option still has a disclaimer that says “a 60 refresh rate will still be used in some scenarios for a better user experience”.
OPPO should release a software update that enables the 120Hz refresh rate for all apps and games when the user selects that option instead of auto select. Right now, the device automatically limits the refresh rate to 60Hz for certain apps, especially games.
I measured the frame rate of normal apps and it reached 120 FPS for Facebook, Messenger, Spotify, Keep Notes, and Google Calendar. Hence, it’s obvious that the OPPO Find X2 Pro limits the 120Hz refresh rate to non-game apps only.
I was very excited to experience 120 FPS gaming on the OPPO Find X2 Pro. However, it turned into disappointment when I found out in my gaming tests that the device limits most games to 60 FPS only.
Users should be able to manually set the screen refresh rate to their heart’s desire. It will reduce the phone’s battery life but that’s a price they are willing to pay when choosing a smartphone with this feature.
Nevertheless, the OPPO Find X2 Pro still performs flawlessly with even the most resource-intensive games like PUBG Mobile and NBA 2K20.
