According to market analysis firm Canalys, realme Philippines is now the number 1 smartphone brand in the country!
This is for the third quarter of 2020 and based on sell-in shipment estimates. The brand skyrocketed to the number 1 spot with a 25% market share marking a 531% increase compared to the same period last year.
realme is followed by the former number 1 vivo with 21% market share, Samsung with 18%, OPPO with 13%, and Xiaomi with 8%. All brands showed increased sales except for OPPO which is down by 35% in annual growth.
The months of July, August, and September 2020 also coincided with the brand’s strongest performance in the PINOY TECHNO GUIDE monthly smartphone popularity rankings. The most popular models were the affordable realme C11, realme C15, and realme C3.
Meanwhile, the popular vivo Y20i wasn’t released in the country until towards the end of the third quarter. It might lift vivo’s ranking again in the last quarter of the year if it performs well together with the new vivo V20 series.
Samsung’s market share only grew by 14% during the period. If the brand wants to regain its glory days, it should offer better entry-level devices than the Samsung Galaxy A01 Core.
OPPO is also looking at more room for improvement. The magic of the A3s and A5s are gone so they need something new for the entry-level segment. A more affordable variant of the OPPO A53 might do the trick.
Lastly, Xiaomi gained more than 220% for this period and is on track to take more market share from other brands.
It’ll be an interesting fourth quarter.
UPDATE: IDC has also announced that realme is indeed the number one smartphone brand in the Philippines for Q3 2020.
