Good news for DITO Telecommunity fans! The Philippines’ third telco passed its first technical audit with an average 5G internet speed of 507.5 Mbps!
That’s way higher compared to the 27 Mbps minimum speed required by National Telecommunications Commission (NTC). For 4G LTE, DITO got an average speed of 85.9 Mbps which is still more than thrice the minimum speed.
However, the auditor KPMG RG Manabat & Co. noted that the telco still has zero subscribers when the tests were conducted. Network congestion might affect these speeds once the telco officially launches for commercial operations next month.
Different speeds were measured based on the distance to the nearest DITO base station or cell tower. Here are the results:
Location | 4G Speed | 5G Speed |
---|---|---|
Near a base station | 102.4 Mbps | 769.1 Mbps |
Median location | 91.2 Mbps | 437.1 Mbps |
Far from base station | 64.4 Mbps | 316.5 Mbps |
Furthermore, DITO reached a 37.48% coverage of the Philippines population with a presence in 8,860 different barangays. This barely surpassed the required coverage of 37%.
The first technical audit started in January 2021.
