Facebook introduced a new app called Facebook Spaces that allows up to four friends to meet in Virtual Reality. It’s currently in beta for Oculus Rift while support for other VR platforms is coming soon.
Facebook Spaces provides avatars for its users. These are highly customizable and aims to look as close as possible to the user. Curiously, the avatars don’t have legs.
Facebook Spaces Demo:
Once the user is already in a VR session, up to three friends can join in the fun. You can choose the venue of the virtual meeting such as the planned vacation location.
There’s also support for drawing 3D objects, video chat for those who don’t have a VR device, a digital selfie stick and others.
Facebook promises that Spaces will be safe. A user can leave a VR session or remove a friend who doesn’t act accordingly.
