Despite a slight price increase, the OnePlus 5T still claims to be the ‘flagship killer’ with its top of the line specs for under $500 or ₱26,000.

Let’s take the device out of its box, check its accessories, get the first impressions with a quick hands on and take a couple of pictures using its cameras.

What’s in the OnePlus 5T box?

Unboxing the OnePlus 5T…

The OnePlus 5T comes in a minimal white box with a few red accents and silver OnePlus 5T logo. Lifting half of the box reveals the phone with an easy to remove protective plastic and a pre-installed screen protector.

Underneath the device is a box with its SIM ejector pin, quick start guide, warranty card and a FREE soft phone case. Its Dash charger and red USB Type-C cord for charging and data are in their custom fitted compartment.

There’s no earphones included in the package. The device has a 3.5mm audio jack so you can use third-party wired earphones.

OnePlus 5T First Impressions

The back of the OnePlus 5T

Once the stickers on the OnePlus 5T were removed, I immediately felt its thinness. Its edges are curved making it feel slimmer than the official 7.3mm measurement.

It might just be me but metal clad phones still feel more premium than others that use glass. The OnePlus 5T has even hidden the antenna bands of the device making it look sleeker.

A 6-inch AMOLED display occupies almost the entire front panel. It’s bright and graphics are crisp despite having a resolution of 1080×2160 pixels.

The OnePlus 5T has an alert slider.

The power button and SIM card stray are found on the right side; volume buttons and alert slider on the left; audio jack, USB Type-C port and loudspeaker grille on the bottom; and nothing on top.

My only complaint is the substantial camera bump at the back. Nevertheless, this is justified by a superb camera quality (more on that below). The fingerprint sensor is placed at the top middle portion of the back plate while the company’s logo is etched below it.

Upon using the phone, it’s immediately apparent that it has flagship specs. Swiping is smooth, animations are fluid and there’s virtually no lag in the user interface. The device launched with Android Nougat but an Android Oreo update is now available.

Overall, the OnePlus 5T is a sleek device with powerful specs worthy of its ‘flagship killer’ moniker.

I took a quick selfie using the 16 Megapixel front camera of the OnePlus 5T and I was amazed by its quality. Just take a look:

Here’s another sample photo from the OnePlus 5T. This was taken using the phone’s rear cameras.

I will be using the OnePlus 5T and further test its performance, camera quality, battery longevity and connectivity. As of the moment, I’m already impressed.

The OnePlus 5T is available at Widget City with a FREE Smart SIM Card.
