Asus has entered the affordable smartphone market in the country with a bang! Their most interesting smartphone yet is the Zenfone 5.
It runs on the 1.6GHz dual core Intel Atom Z2560 processor and flaunts a high definition 5.0-inch display with Corning Gorilla Glass 3 scratch protection. These and 2GB of RAM for a very reasonable price of ₱6,495!
The Intel chip on the Asus Zenfone 5 is said to have a better performance compared to the more common MT6582 and even the Snapdragon 400! It also has a PowerVR SGX544MP2 as its graphics processor.
Its screen is also one of its best features. Graphics just look stunning on its IPS display. Even the user interface has been modified into what Asus calls the Zen UI. It actually runs on Android 4.3 Jelly Bean but a Kitkat update will be available.
Although Asus Zenfone 5 is mostly plastic, the swappable back cover makes it a little interesting. There are five colors to choose from: black, white, red, gold and purple.

There are two versions of the Asus Zenfone 5 – an 8GB version and the 16GB one. Both can be expanded up to 64GB using a microSD card.
However, Asus is offering just the 8GB version in the Philippines. Some say the 8GB version has only 1GB of RAM but it’s actually 2GB.
For photography, the Aus Zenfone 5 has an 8MP camera at the back with autofocus and an LED flash. There’s also a 2MP snapper at the front. The two uses Asus’ PixelMaster technology to produce high quality pictures.

In terms of wireless connectivity, the Asus Zenfone 5 comes with dual SIM functionality but can only house micro SIMs. It also has Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, GPS with GLONASS support and FM Radio.
It has a non-removable 2,110 Lithium-Polymer battery that can last a day of moderate use or more with the power saving option.
