The realme Watch 2 is a budget-friendly smartwatch with several health and fitness features. It has a blood oxygen sensor, a heart rate monitor, and up to 90 sports modes!
I’ve been using the watch for a couple of weeks for this review. I’ve explored its health-tracking features, performance, watch face designs, battery life, connectivity, and overall quality.
What I like about the realme Watch 2:
What I dislike about the realme Watch 2:
The realme Watch 2 has a rectangular case with rounded corners and edges. There’s a 1.4-inch square display on the front, a single power button on the side, and several sensors underneath.
It uses 22mm removable silicone straps with the “Dare to Leap” slogan along the length of one strap and a non-metal buckle at the end.
The watch feels very light when worn and tips the scale at 38 grams only. It seems well-built but doesn’t have the same premium vibe as the realme Watch S Pro. That’s understandable though since this is more affordable.
The 1.4-inch display of the realme Watch 2 has a resolution of 320 x 320 pixels and 323 ppi of pixel density. Its screen quality has dramatically improved compared to the first generation realme Watch in terms of colors, brightness, and responsiveness. It’s still not as good as AMOLED displays though.
Meanwhile, the watch uses a custom OS instead of Android Wear which means no third-party apps. It looks neat and intuitive though with mostly smooth animations.
Swiping from the right opens apps including the workout records, heart rate monitor, weather, and music player. Meanwhile, swiping from the top reveals the notifications, and swiping from the left opens the quick settings.
More apps can be accessed by swiping up such as the blood oxygen or SpO2 monitor, sleep tracker, alarms, stopwatch, camera remote, and realme Link.
There are several watch faces preloaded on the realme Watch 2. These include animated or “live” watch faces which feature subtle animations.
More watch face designs are available on the realme Link app. The designs are arranged in several categories such as mechanical, digital, creative, classic, realmeow, and designs by South Korean artist Grafflex.
Any picture can also be used as a custom watch face with different layout options called Photo Watch Face. This is perfect for a picture of your husband, wife, or the whole family.
The realme Watch pairs with a smartphone via Bluetooth and the realme Link app. It’s compatible with Android smartphones running Android 5.0 and up as well as iOS devices.
It can show notifications from the smartphone including incoming calls, control music playback, serve as the camera shutter, locate the smartphone, and more. Meanwhile, more detailed workout and sleep records are available on the app.
The realme Watch 2 also has the new ability to control other realme AIoT devices such as Bluetooth speakers, wireless earbuds, light bulbs, appliances, and more.
Health and fitness is one of the core features of the realme Watch 2. Its heart rate monitor runs 24/7 while its SpO2 sensor can be used to measure blood oxygen saturation before working out.
There different sports or workout modes while monitoring the calories consumed and heart rate. Software updates will add more sports modes.
The watch can also track sleep duration, sleep quality, and physical activity. It will then show reminders to stand up after sitting for a long time; drink water in customizable intervals; and encouragements when health goals are achieved.
Another major improvement of the realme Watch 2 compared to its previous generation is the larger 315mAh battery.
It can now last up to 12 days on a single charge even with the heart rate monitor running 24/7! Setting the screen brightness to maximum and using GPS for many hours a day will shorten its battery life by a couple of days.
Meanwhile, re-charging the watch is done using a magnetic charging dock bundled in the box.
The realme Watch 2 checks a lot of boxes in terms of health and fitness features. It has a heart rate monitor, SpO2 sensor, sleep tracking, health reminders, and a lot of workout modes.
I still prefer round-faced smartwatches but the realme Watch 2 with its rounded rectangle design, has a dramatically better build quality, display, and comfort.
Hence, I highly recommend the realme Watch 2 as a budget-friendly smartwatch with a focus on health and fitness tracking.
